CCTV, or closed circuit television, systems are commonplace in many locations today, used extensively in retail businesses, industrial settings, private residences and are particularly popular for security purposes in towns and cities across the country. The security advantages these systems provide cannot be overstated and, because of the recent surge in popularity, technological advances are going at a fast clip as competition heats up and computers and other micro-technological innovations increase quality and ease of use while lowering costs. CCTV systems can be found in many retail businesses and, just having them out in plain view is a safety measure in itself. Potential thieves and shoplifters will think twice before trying to rob a store known to have a security system in operation, and those dumb enough to try something anyway will often be captured by the authorities once their actions are reviewed on tape. Banks routinely have security cameras in place to not only keep an eye on customers coming onto the premises but also to monitor the actions of bank employees that are responsible for handling the money. Crime rates continue to increase in many parts of the nation, but taking certain security measures can lessen the likelihood that they will affect your home or business. Tall residential fencing with an automatic gate for the driveway and conspicuous placement of a quality CCTV system at strategic points around the house can do wonders to ward off potential home invaders. Add to this easy to see placards stating that the premises are protected by a security system and many potential bandits will be warded off immediately, in search of easier pickings. Many municipalities use CCTV to monitor roads, intersections and areas where street crime is a known problem. Once criminals are aware that big brother is watching, they will naturally be less likely to pursue illegal activities in those areas. Many cities also use similar devices at traffic light locations in order to take pictures of vehicles going through red lights. The security advantages of these systems are innumerable and those being protected will feel much safer. Pearlie Mikell is the author of this article on driveway gate .
