The Mexican city of Tijuana is located just over the US/Mexican border in the Baja California area. It is the busiest international border in the world with 50 million people crossing it every year. 50,000 cars cross the border every day and you can also walk over easily, as many people do every day to commute to work and back home. Tijuana has a very diverse population. The city’s people come from Tijuana, other parts of Mexico, Argentina, Cuba, Guatemala, California, China, Korea, Japan, France, Lebanon, Italy, Spain and many other places. The most famous street in Tijuana is Avenita Revolucion, or La Revo. Here there are countless opportunities to shop, eat and be entertained. It is the most well-known part of Tijuana and where most of the tourists are. There are lots of hotels in Tijuana for any budget and an abundance of gift shops, restaurants and pharmacies so you will never be stuck without something you need. In addition everything available is priced much lower that it would be across the border in the US, so you will not need to spend much. Both US and Mexican currency is accepted by local businesses. Tijuana is the second most visited city in the west, after New York. Outside of the busy tourist area you can see a much more laid back side to Mexico. Avenita Constitution is where the locals eat and shop and it is quieter with a slower pace. Zona Rio is a beautiful area that houses the Centre of cultural Tijuana, the huge Golf ball shaped Cine Planetario that has a 180° movie screen, the Museum on the history of Baja California and the Plaza Rio mall. The museum has a vibrant mix of ancient colonial, Indian, and seafaring artifacts that are spread over several floors. This is also where the leading hospital facility Angeles Health International is located. Here there are also gourmet restaurants, fancy hotels, museums and even opera. Nearby Boulevard Agua Caliente also has a bullfighting stadium and a dog racing track. North Americans do not require a passport to enter Tijuana and the city is just a few miles drive from San Diego. The journey only takes a few minutes and Tijuana’s International Airport is very close by. As mentioned, Angeles Health International, Mexico’s largest hospital network, has a facility in Tijuana that is situated in the business district of Zona Rio. This area has a globalized feeling with well-known shops such as Starbucks and many American restaurants all around it. Angeles hospital offers medical tourists high quality treatment at the best cost possible. The building is immaculately clean, attended by friendly staff and has been described as looking more like a hotel than a hospital. The five story tower attached to Angeles hospital even has a heliport, the first hospital in the city to have such a feature. There is also a secured garden where patients can relax in peace. Angeles hospital is one of the best examples of medical tourism in Mexico. Roisin Evans is the author of this article on Medical Tourism Mexico. Find more information, about Medical Procedures here |
