More and more businesses today accept credit cards as their main method of transaction. Using credit card has helped businesses and small business alike to increase transaction speed, provide an organized paper trail for the business, generate more sales and thus profit and most importantly, offer convenience to the merchant and the customer. The more businesses that accept credit cards, the more appealing the business is to customers and the more popular the business becomes as well. One classic example is fast food businesses, which have generated more customers by simply making the transaction speedier as well. Convenience for the customer comes from not having to worry about having enough money on hand to cover the cost of the product. It's also convenient for the merchant because they don't have to count up bills but a machine processes the amount for them. Depending on the type of machine the merchant has, different types of credit cards can be accepted as well. This includes debit cards and gift cards. Because of the different incentives credit card companies offer, customers enjoy using their credit cards as much as possible, to receive points or cash back which are just a couple examples. Because businesses now accept credit cards, the face of the economy itself has changed from the revolutionizing convenience it has offered. Businesses have increased sales over the internet and many startup businesses have been able to become successful through all transactions over the internet. Another way the economy has been affected is the increase in companies related to credit card products, such as terminals, processing services and intermediaries between credit card companies and merchants. Although phone and mail order transactions have been dominated by the internet, restaurants and grocery stores are now able to take orders through the phone. This has been made people’s lifestyles even faster paced. Mobile businesses can now accept credit cards as well due to wireless terminals. This has caused mobile businesses to boom such as food trucks and caterers and has also aided in increasing the financial success of many small and independent businesses. Some companies accept credit cards only due to the convenience and organized paper trail. Airlines and vendors at sports games are a perfect example. Perhaps the biggest advantage is for the customer. Many people don’t carry cash at all anymore, and assume that all businesses accept credit cards. There is no need to count bills. Credit cards have virtually eliminated unnecessary trips to the ATM machine. On top of this, retail stores, grocery stores and other businesses have the cash back option on their card machines, which has also eliminated the unnecessary trip to the bank.
