Tooth whitening medications have the actual abilities of improving the presentation brought about by smiling especially in whitening and brightening of teeth. These treatments can be successful to a point that they can lighten the teeth up to six shades of white when the stains are all gone. Whereas, with all this dental procedures or lets say cosmetic procedure, there is a probability of getting a bit of complications that are as a result of the procedure. There are disadvantages of tooth whitening in every procedure even though the dentist may never talk about them. One of the most conflicting side effects to the tooth whitening is the sensitivity that is brought about during the procedure of teeth whitening. These are a temporary effects found even in laser whitening and zoom whitening. According to study it shows that these effects are familiar to up to forty percent of the patients that have gone through the process. Dentist say that specialized toothpaste made mainly for the sensitive teeth can be useful to reduce the discomfort brought about by the side effects. This toothpaste contains potassium nitrate that numbs the nerve endings easing up the pain. Through the process of tooth whitening study has proved that at times it causes discoloration on the teeth. This is because the different parts of the tooth may react in contrary ways through the procedure. Discoloration can not be avoided during the process since the tooth may become too white and sometimes not respond at all. This will depend on the stains formed on the tooth. Frequent over time whitening process can actually help decrease the look of these spotted teeth. Going for some two or three procedures can help in bringing out a clearer image of the teeth. In the whitening process it has been noted that the gums in a few cases have appeared to be irritated. When it comes to these cases the gum and other sensitive areas in the mouth are camouflaged and treated to avoid irritation. These irritations are mostly caused by the lights that are used to enhance the teeth whitening by activating the oxygen used. Patients that experience these mild irritations should avoid the process for at least five days to allow the mouth to heal from the recent treatments. Chewing gums is effective in teeth whitening but it is a tough task since it takes a long annoying process. It is not a very effective process since only one shade of white is entirely seen whereas the signs appear after around six weeks. Most patients have claimed that even the so called whitening toothpaste fails to produce results at times. The tooth whitening gels when brought to contact with the gums causes irritation and to some people pains. The trays made at the lab do not actually fit in every ones mouth hence reducing its effectiveness and discomfort. Blisters and swellings over the recent years have been reported by patients. They are mainly brought about by the in office whitening systems. More so these professional processes are too expensive. Sami Boulis is the author of this article on Teeth Whitening London.
