Rarely is a drink delicious and nutritious at the same time. Most of the time, if the drink is nutritious then it is not delicious and vice versa. The coconut kefir is one such rare drink. It is an easy to make drink and can be made at home without any difficulty. It also has a many health benefits. It is a rejuvenating drink thus helping you keep your mind fresh. What is Coconut Kefir? It is a drink made from the fermentation of coconut water with kefir grains in them. The coconut water is obtained from the young coconuts that are green in color and not the brown coconuts which are the ones that are seen more often. This fermentation process converts the coconut water into a nutritiously healthy drink. What you will need? 1.Boiled water 2.Sugar 3.Coconut water 4.Water-kefir grains 5.A glass jar with a lid that is big enough to hold about 6-7 glasses of water 6.A wooden or plastic spoon (since a metal spoon could kill the necessary bacteria in the water). How to prepare it? The procedure of making the coconut kefir drink is very simple. Add sugar to the boiled water so that the sugar dissolves in the water. The water is then let to cool. Once the water is cooled, kefir grains are added to it and this entire mixture is put into the glass jar. The glass jar should not be filled till the brim, about ¾th of the jar should do. Shut the lid and leave it to ferment. After that the coconut water is added to the mixture and the jar is shut again. This mixture is then left to ferment overnight. In the summers 24 hours is sufficient to complete the process of fermentation. In cold temperatures 48-72 hours should do the trick. When you first taste the Coconut Kefir, it should taste tangy and you will know that the drink is ready. You can refrigerate the drink for later as well. You can also make your own flavor of coconut kefir by adding other ingredients like ginger, lemon, cream etc. You can also use this juice to mix into other drinks for added flavor in the other drinks.
